Wheel Alignment vs Balancing Cost in India (2026): Prices, Difference & Combo Quotes

Last reviewed and prices checked: 1 November 2026. Prices are published listings and estimates, not guaranteed quotations.

Introduction

You have just bought new tyres, or the steering wheel buzzes on the highway, and the shop says, “Alignment and balancing, ₹1,200.” Another shop quotes ₹800. Neither says whether that is for two wheels or four, or whether it is a package or two separate jobs.

Wheel alignment and balancing are different services. Alignment adjusts the angles of the wheels, and balancing evens out the weight of each wheel and tyre. Wheel alignment vs balancing cost in India also differs in how it is quoted: in the listings we checked on 1 November 2026, a Bangalore tyre shop listed alignment as a flat ₹499 to ₹900 per car and balancing at ₹100 to ₹180 per wheel, a marketplace listed “starting” prices of ₹299 for alignment and ₹399 for balancing, and one service provider listed balancing at ₹499 per wheel. Those are listed figures, not quotations.

This guide explains what each service fixes, why units matter, and how to compare a combo quote with itemised ones. We did not inspect cars or interview mechanics for this article. Prices come from published listings, technical points from a tyre maker’s guide and workshop pages, and the worked example is hypothetical.

Wheel Alignment vs Balancing Cost in India – Quick Overview

The table below collects prices that sellers published on 1 November 2026. It is not a market average and it is not a price list for your car.

How far to trust this table. Five limits apply.

  • These are prices that sellers chose to publish. Many are “starting” prices, and listings change.
  • Units differ. Alignment is usually a flat price per car, balancing is usually per wheel, and packages combine them. Some pages reverse this. An insurer’s blog lists alignment per wheel and balancing as a larger lump sum, which does not match how workshops usually quote.
  • Prices vary hugely between pages, from ₹100–₹180 to ₹499 per wheel for balancing, so a single figure is not a benchmark.
  • We could not find a published authorised-centre price list, and the tyre shop’s dealership ranges are its own claims.
  • GST on car parts is a uniform 18% from 22 September 2025, according to a Lakshmikumaran & Sridharan briefing. Check whether your quote shows tax separately.

Actual expenses depend on the car, wheel size, type of alignment, the workshop and the city.

What Each One Fixes

Alignment is about wheel angles. MRF Tyres’ guide lists three: caster, camber and toe. Balancing is about weight. A computerised machine spins the wheel, finds the heavy spot, and counterweights are fitted to the rim, as Tyre Torque and MRF both describe.

Typical signThe car pulls to one side, or the steering wheel sits off-centreVibration at speed, felt in the steering wheel or the seat
Usual pricing unitA flat price per carA price per wheel

Symptoms can overlap, and uneven tyre wear can come from either alignment or suspension faults, so ask the workshop how it decided which service you need. If you have just had struts or suspension arms replaced, ask whether alignment is included.

Wheel Alignment Cost: 2-Wheel vs 4-Wheel and the Report

Alignment is usually quoted as a flat price for the car. The price may depend on whether only the front wheels or all four are aligned, so ask which is being quoted. GoMechanic lists four-wheel alignment among its package items and says every job includes a digital alignment report. MRF says each manufacturer provides alignment data and recommends sticking to it.

So ask for a before-and-after printout or report that shows the measured angles against your car’s specification. A quote that says only “alignment done” gives you nothing to check.

Wheel Balancing Cost: Per Wheel vs All Four

Balancing is usually priced per wheel, which makes the total depend on how many wheels you balance. MRF recommends balancing all four wheels at the same time. Tyre Torque advises asking for the total for all four wheels, including everything, because some shops quote a low per-wheel rate and add a machine or weight charge at billing. It also says static balancing is cheaper but less accurate than dynamic balancing, and that alloy wheels may need special clip-on weights that cost extra. GoMechanic’s page also lists alloy weights as additional.

When you buy new tyres, ask whether balancing is in the fitment price. Tyre Torque notes that some shops bundle it and others charge it separately.

Combo and Package Quotes

A combo can be good value or can hide missing items. Tyre Torque lists an alignment plus balancing combo at ₹799 to ₹1,500, and GoMechanic lists a ₹1,349 package that also includes tyre rotation and steering adjustment. Whatever the label, ask what is inside: four-wheel or front-only alignment, how many wheels are balanced, the type of weights, and whether a report is included. A single lump sum like “₹1,200 for alignment and balancing” cannot be compared with anything until you know.

How Often Do You Need Each?

Sources disagree, so follow your car’s manual and what your tyres show. MRF suggests alignment every 5,000 to 8,000 km and whenever you fit a new set, and balancing whenever you service, repair or replace tyres. Tyre Torque suggests alignment every 8,000 to 10,000 km and balancing every 5,000 to 8,000 km, with a check after a hard pothole or kerb hit. MRF’s guide was last modified in 2017, so treat its intervals as guidance, not a rule. A fixed interval is a seller or maker suggestion, not a legal requirement.

Factors That Affect Wheel Alignment and Balancing Cost in India

  • Alignment type. Front two-wheel or four-wheel, and the equipment used.
  • Number of wheels. Balancing is per wheel.
  • Wheel size and type. Larger and alloy wheels may use larger or special weights.
  • Balancing method. Static or dynamic.
  • Bundling. Combos and packages versus separate jobs.
  • Report. Whether a before-and-after report is included.
  • Workshop type and city. A roadside shop, a tyre shop and a dealership differ in equipment and rates.
  • Tax. Whether GST is shown or included.

Authorised Service Centre vs Local Garage vs Tyre Shop

We could not find a published authorised-centre price list for alignment or balancing, so we cannot say which is cheaper. The Bangalore tyre shop claims dealerships charge about double for the same service, but it shows no dealer price list, so we do not repeat that as fact. What you can compare is everything around the price:

  • Equipment and method. Computerised alignment with a report, and dynamic balancing.
  • Scope. How many wheels, and what the package includes.
  • Bundling. Whether balancing is included with new tyres.
  • Paperwork. An itemised bill, with tax shown.
  • Cars under warranty. Ask the manufacturer if anything applies to your car.

How to Compare Two Alignment and Balancing Quotes

Two quotes are only comparable when they cover the same wheels and work. Check these in order:

  1. Alignment type. Front two-wheel or four-wheel, and whether a report is included.
  2. Balancing units. Per wheel or for all four, and how many wheels.
  3. Method and weights. Dynamic or static, and any alloy weights extra.
  4. Package contents. Rotation, steering adjustment or other items.
  5. Tax. Bring both quotes to the same basis, as explained in our guide on how to compare two car repair estimates.

Illustrative example: two quotes. These figures are invented to show the method. They are not market prices.

LineGarage A (hypothetical)Garage B (hypothetical)
Wheel alignment₹800 (4-wheel, before-and-after report)₹600 (front or all four not stated)
Wheel balancing₹600 (4 wheels at ₹150 each)₹200 (per wheel or all four not stated)
Alloy wheel weights₹100Not mentioned
Total before tax₹1,500₹800
GST at 18%₹270 (shown)Not mentioned
Total as quoted₹1,770₹800

As written, Garage B is ₹970 lower. But Garage B does not say whether its ₹200 is per wheel or for all four, whether the alignment covers all four wheels, whether a report is included, or whether tax applies. If the ₹200 is per wheel, balancing all four comes to ₹800, so the total is ₹1,400 before tax, or ₹1,652 with 18% GST, which is ₹118 below Garage A. Garage A also includes the report and alloy weights. The point is to ask, not to conclude.

How CarJeevan Helps Compare Two Repair Quotes

CarJeevan’s Car Repair Estimate Calculator & Quote Comparator is a free tool for organising two garage quotations side by side. For each quotation you enter the repair items with quantity, parts cost per item and labour, plus other charges, discounts and tax or fees. You can also tick whether a quotation states the part brand or number, explains the warranty, lists labour separately and requires your approval for additional work. The tool then shows the totals and the differences between the two. Its privacy note says the calculations run in your browser.

It has limits. It has no live price database, cannot tell you which service your car needs or whether a garage is overcharging, and does not guarantee savings. Its output is only as accurate as what you enter. Enter taxes exactly as the quotation shows them, and do not count them twice.

For these services, enter alignment, balancing and any weights as separate rows. If a quote’s balancing price is per wheel, ask the garage to confirm before you enter a quantity of 4. A line that appears in one quote and not the other is then easy to spot, and it is a question to ask, not a verdict.

Have two quotations for your wheel alignment and balancing? Use the CarJeevan comparison tool to organise and compare the parts, labour and other charges entered in both estimates.

Wheel Alignment vs Balancing Cost – Frequently Asked Questions

How much does wheel alignment cost in India?

In the listings we checked on 1 November 2026, a Bangalore tyre shop listed four-wheel alignment as a flat ₹499 to ₹900 per car, a Hyderabad workshop listed ₹600 to ₹1,500, and a marketplace listed a “starting” price of ₹299. Prices vary by car, equipment and city.

How much does wheel balancing cost in India?

The Bangalore tyre shop listed ₹100 to ₹180 per wheel at a multi-brand shop (₹400 to ₹900 for all four, depending on the car), a marketplace listed a “starting” price of ₹399, and one service provider listed ₹499 per wheel. Ask whether a price is per wheel or for all four.

Is wheel alignment the same as wheel balancing?

No. Alignment sets the wheel angles, and balancing evens out the weight of the wheel and tyre. Pulling to one side usually points to alignment, and vibration at speed usually points to balancing, but ask the workshop how it decided.

Do I need both when I buy new tyres?

Tyre Torque says balancing is mandatory after fitting new tyres, and MRF says to align whenever you fit a new set and to balance with new tyres. Ask what your tyre shop includes.

Why do two garages quote different prices for alignment and balancing?

The unit (per car or per wheel), the alignment type, the balancing method, weights, bundling, tax and city can all differ. Compare complete quotations rather than totals.

Conclusion

Alignment and balancing are different services with different units. Alignment is usually a flat price per car and balancing is usually per wheel, which makes a lump-sum “package” easy to misread. Published listings give a sense of scale, but they range from ₹100 to ₹499 per wheel for balancing and mostly come from sellers, so use them to prepare questions rather than as a price to expect.

Ask which service you need and why, whether alignment is front-only or four-wheel, whether you get a before-and-after report, how many wheels the balancing covers, and what the package includes. Compare complete quotations, including tax, rather than picking the lowest total. When you hold two estimates, the CarJeevan tool can line them up row by row, while the decision about what your car needs belongs with a qualified technician.

This article is general information, not a diagnosis or professional advice. Prices are published listings and estimates checked on 1 November 2026 and may change. Have a qualified technician inspect your car if you notice pulling, vibration or uneven tyre wear.
