Introduction
A parking-lot scrape has left a long mark on your rear door and a dent in the bumper. One body shop quotes ₹9,000, another quotes ₹16,000, and neither says whether the figure includes the neighbouring panel, the clear coat or refitting the trim.
Car denting and painting cost in India depends on the repair method, the number of panels, the paint type and what the quote actually covers. In the listings we checked on 31 October 2026, single-panel paint started at ₹1,800 in Mumbai, and dent-plus-paint per panel started at ₹2,499 with one provider and ₹4,500 with another. Those are “from” prices. The full-body repaint figure we found was a seller’s estimate with no source, so we treat it as unverified.
This guide explains what you pay for in a body-shop quote, how insurance treats paint, and how to compare two estimates. We did not inspect cars or interview painters for this article. Prices come from published listings, technical points from manufacturer, paint-maker and insurer documents, and the worked examples are hypothetical.
Car Denting and Painting Cost in India – Quick Overview
The table below collects prices that providers published on 31 October 2026. It is not a market average and it is not a price list for your car.
Indicative Car Denting and Painting Prices in India
| Job | Published figure | Source (checked 31 Oct 2026) | What to know |
|---|---|---|---|
| Single-panel paint (bonnet or front bumper) | From ₹1,800 | GoMechanic, Mumbai: denting and painting page | A starting price. The exact figure needs your car model. The listing states 24 hours and a 2-year warranty. |
| Alloy wheel paint | From ₹899 for one wheel | GoMechanic, Mumbai page | The listing states a 1-year warranty. |
| Dent plus paint, per panel (hatchback or sedan) | From ₹4,500 (Pune, Indore, Nashik); from ₹2,499 (Jaipur, Delhi NCR, Ahmedabad) | Your Mechanic Online: Pune guide; GaadiMech: denting page | Different providers and cities. Your Mechanic Online says colour matching is included. GaadiMech shows its price after you choose a car. |
| Dent plus paint, per panel (SUV or luxury) | From ₹5,500 (SUV); from ₹6,999 (luxury) | Your Mechanic Online Pune guide | The same indicative prices apply across its three cities. |
| Paintless dent repair | ₹800–₹2,500 (estimate) | Ride N Repair: blog (April 2026) | A seller estimate with no stated method. Suits only dents with intact paint. |
| Bumper repair plus repaint | ₹3,500–₹8,500 (estimate, independent shop) | Ride N Repair blog | A seller estimate. The same blog gives two slightly different lower limits for a medium dent plus panel paint. |
| Full-body repaint | Hatchback, solid colour: ₹25,000–₹38,000 (estimate) | Ride N Repair blog | A seller estimate. GoMechanic and GaadiMech list full-body packages (8 days and 5–7 days) but show prices only after you select a car. |
| Authorised body-shop prices | Not verified | – | No published price list found. |
How far to trust this table. Four limits apply.
- These are prices that sellers chose to publish. Many are “from” prices, and listings change.
- Figures differ by provider, city and car segment, and even one seller’s own blog is not fully consistent.
- We could not find a published authorised body-shop price list. One seller blog says authorised shops charge 40–70% more than independent ones but shows no data, so we do not repeat that as a fact.
- GST on car parts is a uniform 18% from 22 September 2025, according to a Lakshmikumaran & Sridharan briefing. We did not verify how paint and other materials are taxed on a body-shop bill, so check how your quote shows them.
Actual expenses depend on the make and model, the damage, the paint type, parts, labour, the workshop and the city.
Dent Repair vs Repainting: What Are You Paying For?
A “denting and painting” quote can describe three different jobs. Ask which one you are being quoted.
- Paintless dent repair (PDR). The technician reshapes the panel from behind, or pulls it with glue tabs, without repainting. Toyota’s owner guidance says it works only while the paint is intact, that shallower dents are more likely to qualify, and that very sharp dents and creases may not be suitable. That page is from Toyota’s UAE distributor, but the method is the same.
- Conventional repair and repaint. The dent is worked out, filler is used if needed, and the panel is sanded, primed, colour-coated and clear-coated. Axalta’s published sequence lists sanding the filler, primer-filler, colour and clear coat as separate steps.
- Part replacement plus paint. When metal or plastic is beyond repair, the quote carries a new part and its paint. Our guide to OEM and aftermarket parts explains the part choice.
Car Panel Painting Cost and Colour Matching
Per-panel “from” prices in the table run from ₹1,800 to ₹6,999, depending on provider, city and segment. What the price covers matters as much as the number.
Colour matching. PPG’s refinish procedure begins with the vehicle’s original colour code, checks whether the area was refinished before, and judges the match in natural or colour-corrected light. Axalta’s training director notes that factory paint varies between plants and suppliers, and that blending into the adjacent panel is standard practice, with solid, metallic, pearl or three-stage finish among the factors. So a “one panel” job may involve blending the neighbour. Ask whether that is included and whether it is billed.
What a paint line may include. GaadiMech’s service page lists dent repair, panel alignment, surface preparation, paint, rubbing and polishing, and clear coat. Use that as a checklist of lines to look for, not as a standard.
Car Bumper Repair and Painting Cost
Many bumpers are plastic, so the choice is usually between repairing and repainting the existing one or fitting a new one and painting it. A replacement adds the part price. Published reference points are bumper paint from ₹1,800 (GoMechanic, Mumbai) and a seller estimate of ₹3,500–₹8,500 for repair plus repaint, which we could not verify.
Ask whether the bumper has to come off, whether clips, trim and lamps are refitted, and how hidden damage found once it is removed will be priced and approved. Our guide to why a repair bill can differ from the estimate covers extra work.
Full Body Car Paint Cost in India
We found no verified full-body price. GoMechanic lists a full-body dent-and-paint package as an 8-day job with a 2-year warranty, and GaadiMech lists a full-body paint package of 5–7 days that excludes the roof. Both show prices only after you pick a car. A seller blog estimates ₹25,000–₹38,000 for a hatchback in a solid colour.
Before comparing two full-body quotes, confirm the same scope: same colour or a colour change, which panels and the roof are included, whether trim, lamps, mirrors and handles are removed or masked, the paint system and clear coat, polishing, time and warranty. If you plan to change the colour, ask your RTO whether the registration certificate needs updating.
Factors That Affect Car Denting and Painting Cost in India
- Damage and method. Depth, size and sharpness decide whether paintless repair is possible or filler and repaint is needed.
- Number of panels and blending. Neighbouring panels may need blending for a colour match.
- Panel and material. A plastic bumper, a metal door and a roof differ in repair and paint work.
- Paint type. Solid, metallic, pearl and three-stage finishes differ in matching difficulty, and many sellers price them differently.
- Car segment. One provider lists denting from ₹4,500 for hatchbacks and sedans, ₹5,500 for SUVs and ₹6,999 for luxury cars.
- Parts replaced. A new bumper or panel adds a part price.
- Labour and refit. Removing and refitting trim, lamps and sensors adds time.
- Workshop and city. Rates, equipment and paint systems vary.
- Hidden damage. Extra work can appear once panels are removed.
Authorised Body Shop vs Local Garage – Denting and Painting Costs
We could not find a published authorised body-shop price list for denting and painting, so we cannot say which type of workshop is cheaper. What you can compare is everything around the price:
- Paint system. Ask for the colour code, paint brand and clear coat.
- Warranty. Two providers we checked, GoMechanic and GaadiMech, list a 2-year warranty on their paint work. We found no authorised-shop warranty terms for body work. Get the terms in writing: what is covered, for how long, and who honours it.
- Documentation. Look for itemised panels, steps and tax, and ask whether before-and-after photos are offered.
- Insurance claims. Ask your insurer how repairs are approved and which workshops it works with.
- Cars under warranty. Ask the manufacturer how outside body work affects your warranty.
Insurance Claim or Pay Yourself? How Paint Is Treated
If you claim, the insurer decides how much of the paint bill it pays. Royal Sundaram’s published own-damage policy wording is one example. Other insurers’ wordings we saw carry a similar painting rule, but check your own policy. On a partial-loss claim it deducts depreciation on replaced parts: 50% on rubber, nylon and plastic parts, 30% on fibre-glass parts, nothing on glass, and an age-based percentage on other parts. For painting, the 50% applies only to the material cost. If the paint bill is consolidated, the policy treats 25% of it as material. A claim also resets the no-claim bonus (20% to 50% in that policy’s table) to nil at the next renewal, and a compulsory deductible set in the policy schedule applies.
Worked example (hypothetical). A consolidated paint bill is ₹10,000. Material is treated as 25%, which is ₹2,500. Depreciation is 50% of that, ₹1,250, so the paint portion payable is ₹8,750 before the deductible. An itemised bill uses the actual material cost instead, which can make the deduction larger or smaller, so ask the surveyor how your bill will be treated. A zero-depreciation add-on, if you hold one, changes this, so check your policy.
We found no authoritative rupee threshold for when to claim. Compare what you would receive after depreciation and the deductible against the no-claim bonus you would lose, and ask your insurer before you decide.
How to Compare Two Car Denting and Painting Estimates
Two body-shop quotes are only comparable when they cover the same work. Check these in order:
- Panels and damage. Both quotes should list the same panels and say how each was assessed.
- Repair method. Paintless, filler and repaint, or replacement, panel by panel.
- Paint specification. Colour code, paint type (solid, metallic, pearl) and brand.
- Blending. Whether neighbouring panels are blended and billed.
- Finishing. Clear coat and polishing.
- Parts and refit. Any replaced part (brand, new or used) and removal and refit of trim and bumpers.
- Time and warranty. Days needed, warranty on the paint, and whether it is written on the bill.
- Tax. Bring both quotes to the same basis, as explained in our guide on how to compare two car repair estimates.
Illustrative example: door and bumper repair quotes. These figures are invented to show the method. They are not market prices.
| Line | Garage A (hypothetical) | Garage B (hypothetical) |
|---|---|---|
| Rear door: dent repair, paint, clear coat | ₹5,500 | Not itemised |
| Rear bumper: scuff repair, paint, clear coat | ₹4,500 | Not itemised |
| Blend adjacent quarter panel | ₹1,800 | Not mentioned |
| Removal and refit of bumper and door trim | ₹800 | Not mentioned |
| Polishing and finishing | ₹600 | Not mentioned |
| Paint details | Colour code and brand stated | Not stated |
| Lump sum | – | ₹9,000 |
| Total before tax | ₹13,200 | ₹9,000 |
| GST at 18% | ₹2,376 (shown) | Not mentioned |
| Warranty | 12 months on paint, written | “6 months”, verbal |
| Time | 4 days | 2 days |
| Total as quoted | ₹15,576 | ₹9,000 |
As written, Garage B is ₹6,576 lower. But Garage B gives no panel-by-panel breakdown and does not say whether the neighbouring panel is blended, whether clear coat and polishing are included, which paint is used, or whether tax and a written warranty apply. Some of this may be included, and the shorter time may be fine. The point is to ask, not to conclude.
How CarJeevan Helps Compare Two Repair Quotes
CarJeevan’s Car Repair Estimate Calculator & Quote Comparator is a free tool for organising two garage quotations side by side. For each quotation you enter the repair items with quantity, parts cost per item and labour, plus other charges, discounts and tax or fees. You can also tick whether a quotation states the part brand or number, explains the warranty, lists labour separately and requires your approval for additional work. The tool then shows the totals and the differences between the two. Its privacy note says the calculations run in your browser.
It has limits. It has no live price database, does not diagnose damage, cannot tell you whether a repair is necessary or a garage is overcharging, and does not guarantee savings. Its output is only as accurate as what you enter.
For body work, enter each panel and each extra step (blending, polishing, removal and refit) as its own row. A step that appears in one quote and not the other is then easy to spot, and it is a question to ask, not a verdict.
Have two garage quotations for your car denting and painting? Use the CarJeevan comparison tool to organise and compare the parts, labour and other charges entered in both estimates.
Questions to Ask Before Approving Denting and Painting
These are body-work questions. For general ones, see our list of questions to ask your mechanic before approving any repair.
Damage and method
- Can this dent be fixed without repainting, or does the paint need work? Why?
- Which panels are being repaired, and which are only being painted?
Paint and colour
- What are the colour code, paint type and brand?
- Will the neighbouring panel be blended, and is it billed separately?
- Is clear coat included, and is the panel polished?
Scope and parts
- Does any part need replacing? Is it genuine, aftermarket or used?
- Are trim, lamps and sensors removed and refitted, and who pays if something is damaged?
Time, warranty and charges
- How many days will the car be here, and why?
- What is the warranty on the paint, and is it written on the bill?
- Will you get my approval in writing before any extra work, if hidden damage turns up?
- If I claim insurance, how is the paint bill split between material and labour?
Car Denting and Painting Cost – Frequently Asked Questions
How much does car denting and painting cost in India?
In the listings we checked on 31 October 2026, single-panel paint started at ₹1,800 (Mumbai), and dent plus paint per panel started at ₹2,499 (Jaipur, Delhi NCR, Ahmedabad) or ₹4,500 for hatchbacks and sedans (Pune, Indore, Nashik), rising to ₹5,500 for SUVs and ₹6,999 for luxury cars. These are starting prices. Real quotes depend on the damage, paint type and number of panels.
How much does it cost to repaint a whole car in India?
We found no verified price. One seller blog estimates ₹25,000–₹38,000 for a hatchback in a solid colour. Two providers list full-body packages that take 5–8 days but show prices only after you choose your car. Ask for a written, panel-by-panel quote.
Is paintless dent repair cheaper than denting and painting?
A seller blog estimates ₹800–₹2,500, below the per-panel “from” prices for dent plus paint. But it suits only dents where the paint is intact and the metal is not sharply creased, so a technician must inspect the damage first.
Should I claim insurance for denting and painting?
It depends on your policy. Depreciation on paint material, the no-claim bonus you would lose and the deductible all reduce the benefit. Compare what you would receive with the bonus you would lose, and ask your insurer.
Why do two garages quote different prices for the same dent?
Scope differs: repair method, blending, clear coat, polishing, parts, refit, tax and warranty. Prices also differ by city and car segment, so compare complete quotations rather than totals.
Conclusion
Car denting and painting cost is not one number. A paintless repair, a filler repair with repaint, a new bumper and a full-body job are different work with different scope. Published listings give a sense of scale, but most are “from” prices from sellers, so use them to prepare questions rather than as a price to expect.
Ask which method is quoted, whether neighbouring panels are blended, what the paint and clear coat are, and what the written warranty covers. If you plan to claim, ask how the insurer treats paint material before you decide. When you hold two estimates, the CarJeevan tool can line them up row by row, while the judgement about the repair belongs with a qualified painter or your insurer’s surveyor.
