Introduction
The tread has hit the wear indicators, and the shop says, “All four need changing.” The quote is ₹16,000 from one place and ₹20,000 from another. One of them quoted per tyre, and neither says whether fitting, balancing, valves and alignment are in the number.
Car tyre replacement cost in India depends on the tyre size and brand tier, how many tyres you change, and what the quote includes beyond the tyres. In the Bangalore tyre shop price guide we opened, which was updated on 16 July 2026, hatchback tyres from budget Indian brands ran about ₹3,200 to ₹5,000 each, and a fully fitted set of four for a hatchback ran about ₹14,000 to ₹20,000 at a budget brand. Those are one shop’s listed figures, not quotations. Prices also fell after GST on new pneumatic tyres was cut from 28% to 18% on 22 September 2025.
This guide explains what a full tyre quote includes, how the GST cut affects old price pages, when to replace one pair or all four, and how to compare two quotes. We did not buy tyres or interview fitters for this article. Prices come from published listings, technical points from tyre makers’ guidance, and the worked example is hypothetical.

How far to trust this table. Five limits apply.
- These are prices that sellers chose to publish, mostly from one Bangalore shop, and prices vary by city, size and shop.
- Ranges differ between sources, and we do not know the exact sizes behind each.
- Several pages predate the GST cut of 22 September 2025, so older prices overstate.
- We could not find a published authorised-centre price list, so the table does not compare workshop types.
- One editorial reported tyre makers signalling price increases of 2–5% from April 2026. We could not confirm this, so check current prices.
Actual expenses depend on your tyre size, the brand tier, how many tyres you change, and the shop and city.
What a Complete Tyre Quote Includes
The tyre is only part of the bill. Tyre Torque lists fitment, balancing, new valves, nitrogen refilling and alignment as separate items, and advises getting an all-inclusive written quote, because some shops quote only the tyre price and add balancing, fitment, valve and disposal charges at billing. Ask for the total you will pay, and for these lines:
- Tyre brand, model, size, load index and speed rating.
- The manufacture date of the tyres you will get.
- Fitment, balancing and valves, and whether they are per tyre or for all four.
- Alignment, and whether it is for the front wheels or all four.
- Disposal of the old tyres, if charged.
- GST, and whether it is included.
- Warranty, and who handles claims.
Prices Moved After the GST Cut
The 56th GST Council cut GST on new pneumatic tyres from 28% to 18% from 22 September 2025, covering passenger car tyres. Apollo Tyres said it would cut prices by ₹300 to ₹1,500 per passenger car tyre from the same date. So any tyre price page written before then may overstate, and our guide to how to compare two car repair estimates explains how to bring quotes to the same tax basis. Check the date on any price list you rely on.
One, Two or Four Tyres?
Continental recommends fitting the same tyres, with the same brand, size, tread pattern, load index and speed rating, on every wheel. If you must mix, it says to keep identical tyres on each axle. If you replace only two, Continental says the tyre industry recommends fitting the new tyres on the rear axle, and Apollo says the same, adding that you should buy the exact same tyre as the pair you are replacing where possible. Some carmakers advise differently, for example the front axle on a front-wheel-drive car, so check your owner’s manual.
This changes what you spend. A pair costs half of a set, but it is only sensible if the other two tyres have similar wear and the same specification. Avoid replacing a single tyre unless the others are nearly new.
Size, Load Index and Speed Rating
Continental says three things matter when buying new tyres: the size, the speed rating and the load index, and all of them are printed on the sidewall. Use the size in your owner’s manual or on the car’s tyre placard, and do not choose a different size just because it is cheaper. If you want a different size, ask the shop to confirm that it is approved for your car.
When to Replace Your Tyres
Apollo suggests around 50,000 km and about six years as replacement guides, whichever comes first, and our annual car maintenance cost guide shows how that turns into a yearly cost. Replace sooner if the tread reaches the wear indicators or you see cuts, bulges or cracks. Check the manufacture date too. Apollo explains that the date is the last four digits of the DOT code: the first two give the week and the last two the year. One tyre shop says to avoid tyres older than 18 to 24 months from manufacture when buying, which is that shop’s advice, so ask what date code you are getting.
Brand Tiers and Price
Tyre Torque’s ranges put budget Indian brands (JK, CEAT, Apollo) lowest, MRF in the middle, and Bridgestone, Michelin and Continental at the higher end, with SUV sizes costing more at every tier. The shop also quotes tread-life figures for each brand, but we found no independent test behind them, so we do not repeat them. Our guide to OEM and aftermarket parts covers brand choice in general. For tyres, ask for the brand and model in writing, and check the warranty terms.
Factors That Affect Car Tyre Replacement Cost in India
- Tyre size. Larger and lower-profile tyres cost more.
- Brand tier and model. Budget, mid-range or premium.
- Number of tyres. One pair or a full set.
- Fitting and balancing. Per tyre, and whether included.
- Alignment. Recommended with new tyres, and priced per car.
- Valves, nitrogen and disposal. Small items that add up.
- GST. 18% on new tyres from 22 September 2025.
- Shop type and city. Shop, dealer, online or doorstep.
Shop, Dealer or Online?
We could not find a published authorised-centre tyre price list, so we cannot say which source is cheaper. Marketplace listings can look cheaper, but fitting, balancing and alignment may be extra, and one listing we saw includes doorstep installation. Compare the same scope each time: the tyre, its manufacture date, fitting, balancing, valves, alignment, disposal, tax and warranty.
How to Compare Two Tyre Quotes
- The tyre. Brand, model, size, load index, speed rating and manufacture date.
- Units. Per tyre or for the set, and how many tyres.
- Fitting lines. Fitment, balancing, valves, nitrogen and disposal.
- Alignment. Included, separate or not mentioned.
- Tax. Bring both quotes to the same basis.
- Warranty. Who honours it and how you claim.
Illustrative example: two sets of four tyres. These figures are invented to show the method. They are not market prices.
| Line | Garage A (hypothetical) | Garage B (hypothetical) |
|---|---|---|
| Tyres | 4 × ₹4,000 = ₹16,000 (brand, model, size and date code stated) | 4 × ₹3,600 = ₹14,400 (brand and date code not stated) |
| Fitment | ₹600 (₹150 per tyre) | “Extra”, not quoted |
| Balancing | ₹600 (₹150 per tyre) | “Extra”, not quoted |
| Valves | ₹240 (₹60 per tyre) | Not mentioned |
| Alignment | ₹600 | Not mentioned |
| Total as quoted | ₹18,040 (GST stated as included) | ₹14,400 |
As written, Garage B is ₹3,640 lower. But Garage B quotes no fitting, balancing, valves or alignment. If it charged the same rates as Garage A for those four lines (₹2,040), its total would be ₹16,440, which is ₹1,600 below Garage A. Garage B also does not say which tyre or how old it is. The point is to ask, not to conclude.
How CarJeevan Helps Compare Two Repair Quotes
CarJeevan’s Car Repair Estimate Calculator & Quote Comparator is a free tool for organising two garage quotations side by side. For each quotation you enter the repair items with quantity, parts cost per item and labour, plus other charges, discounts and tax or fees. You can also tick whether a quotation states the part brand or number, explains the warranty, lists labour separately and requires your approval for additional work. The tool then shows the totals and the differences between the two. Its privacy note says the calculations run in your browser.
It has limits. It has no live price database, does not inspect tyres, cannot tell you whether you need new tyres or a shop is overcharging, and does not guarantee savings. Its output is only as accurate as what you enter. Enter taxes exactly as the quotation shows them, and do not count them twice.
For tyres, enter the tyre line with a quantity of 4 if the price is per tyre, and enter fitment, balancing, valves and alignment as separate rows. A line that appears in one quote and not the other is then easy to spot, and it is a question to ask, not a verdict.
Have two quotations for your tyre replacement? Use the CarJeevan comparison tool to organise and compare the parts, labour and other charges entered in both estimates.
Questions to Ask Before Buying Tyres
For general questions, see our list of questions to ask your mechanic before approving any repair. For tyres, add these:
- What are the brand, model, size, load index and speed rating, and does it match my car’s placard?
- What is the manufacture date of the tyres I will get?
- Is the price per tyre or for the set, and what is the total including fitment, balancing, valves and alignment?
- Do you charge for disposal of the old tyres?
- Is GST included?
- What is the warranty, and who handles a claim?
- If I replace only two tyres, will you fit them on the rear axle?
Car Tyre Replacement Cost – Frequently Asked Questions
How much does car tyre replacement cost in India?
It depends on size, brand and what the quote includes. In the Bangalore shop guide we opened, hatchback tyres from budget Indian brands ran ₹3,200 to ₹5,000 each, with a fully fitted set of four at ₹14,000 to ₹20,000 for a budget brand, and SUV sets cost more. Marketplace listings for common small-car sizes ran from ₹2,832 to ₹4,161 per tyre. These are listed figures, not quotations.
Did tyre prices fall after the GST cut?
GST on new pneumatic tyres was cut from 28% to 18% on 22 September 2025, and Apollo said it would cut passenger car tyre prices by ₹300 to ₹1,500. Check that any price list you use is dated after that.
Should I replace two tyres or all four?
Continental recommends the same tyres on every wheel, and if you replace only two, fitting the new ones on the rear axle. Apollo says the same. Check your owner’s manual, because some carmakers advise differently.
When should I replace car tyres?
Apollo suggests about 50,000 km or six years, whichever comes first. Replace sooner if the tread reaches the wear indicators or the tyre is cut, bulged or cracked.
Why do two shops quote different prices for the same tyres?
The brand and model, the manufacture date, the unit (per tyre or per set), fitting, balancing, valves, alignment, disposal, GST and warranty can all differ. Compare complete quotations rather than totals.
Conclusion
Car tyre replacement cost is not one number. The tyre, the brand tier, how many tyres you change, and the fitting lines that surround them all move the total, and prices dropped after the September 2025 GST cut, so older pages overstate. Published figures mostly come from sellers, so use them to prepare questions rather than as a price to expect.
Ask for the tyre’s brand, size and manufacture date, the unit of the price, the full list of fitting lines and alignment, the GST treatment, and the warranty. If you replace two tyres, fit them on the rear axle and keep each axle matched. When you hold two quotes, the CarJeevan tool can line them up row by row, while the decision about which tyres your car needs belongs with a qualified tyre specialist.
This article is general information, not professional advice. Prices are published listings and estimates checked on 5 November 2026 and may change. Have a qualified tyre specialist inspect your tyres and confirm the right size and specification for your car.
